Blog about Asturias in Northern Spain and my experiences living and visiting there. First as a tourist looking for fiestas and waves and later as an English teacher looking for more fiestas and waves. We still live in Spain and are now looking to renovate a house on the Asturian coast so we can spend more time in this wonderful part of Europe.

Why Asturias?
I'd never heard of Asturias the first time we ended up there, I'm not even sure why we went there. I just remember that I was travelling with my step brother and we wanted to spend some time on the North coast of Spain because it was green and that was were we could do some surfing. We took the bus from the French border and arrived at Gijón at 7:00 am in the morning. Time for a brief stop over and a coffee and cognac before boarding the next bus to Tapia de Casariego, some town on the West coast of Asturias and close to Galicia. I think my brother had picked it because the name amused him. It was a random trip that was to change everything, and an introduction to one of the most beautiful parts of Spain. Asturias, Patria Querida.
